Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to release in 2025. The dedicated team of volunteer developers, who have poured years into this monumental modding project, reaffirmed their target release date during a recent developer update stream. They showcased the impressive work completed so far, emphasizing their commitment to achieving this goal, possibly even surpassing their own expectations with the community's support.

Labeling Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake would not do justice to the extensive enhancements being made. The developers are not only recreating the game but also revamping various elements of the original Elder Scrolls title. This includes ensuring that unique items stand out and enhancing the challenge posed by existing bosses, such as the notorious Mannimarco. The team highlighted the "A Brush with Death" quest in their livestream, showcasing the beautifully reimagined painted world.

The project's intrigue is heightened by rumors of an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, alleged details about potential changes to combat and other aspects of the game surfaced, though Microsoft declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Additionally, in 2023, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial inadvertently revealed mentions of an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game, which has since been released. However, the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remain unconfirmed.

Should Microsoft and Bethesda decide to relaunch Oblivion officially, this could impact the trajectory of fan projects like Skyblivion. Bethesda's games have a rich history of modding support, from classic titles to the latest releases like Starfield. The hope is that Skyblivion will not face the same challenges as other fan projects, such as Fallout London, as it approaches its anticipated launch.
