Respawn Abandons Titanfall Multiplayer Shooter Project
A former employee of the studio shared on LinkedIn that a game, which had been in development for several years, was abruptly halted this week. The reasons for this decision remain undisclosed, leaving many in the gaming community puzzled. Last year, journalist Jeff Grubb clarified that this project was not a mainline entry in the series, specifically ruling out the possibility of it being Titanfall 3. Respawn Entertainment had assembled a special "experimental team" for this project, bringing on board experts in multiplayer shooter development.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project. Last year, they also discontinued an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends. The Titanfall series, known for its dynamic mix of action and mech piloting, has captivated players since its debut in 2014. The franchise's appeal lies in its unique gameplay, which seamlessly blends parkour with intense team battles.
Currently, Respawn is channeling its efforts into the development of the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series, alongside a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe. This latter project is being developed in collaboration with Bit Reactor, indicating a shift in focus towards other promising ventures.
