Powerful Budget Final Fantasy Magic Cards Available Now

As we approach the release of Magic: The Gathering's newest set, Edge of Eternities (beginning with prerelease events), we're preparing to journey through the cosmos and move on from the incredibly successful Final Fantasy Universes Beyond collaboration.

However, since this set will remain Standard-legal for three years, there are still compelling reasons to acquire cards from it for your decks. Now that the initial launch excitement has settled, several cards have become more affordable and are definitely worth considering.

Here are several powerful cards you can find at very low prices.

Sazh’s Chocobo

I'm beginning this list with an inexpensive and charming card: Sazh's Chocobo. I've encountered it frequently in Arena matches, and this Uncommon creature grows stronger with each land you play.

With a cost of just one mana, you can deploy it as early as turn two. Playing a land afterward provides an immediate benefit, and its power escalates from there. You can typically find it for about a dollar.

Summon: Primal Odin

Significantly less cute, Summon: Primal Odin is a formidable card for numerous reasons. It provides instant removal for a creature, and later can enable card draw and deal damage to opponents.

Its Zantetsuken ability is particularly devastating: "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, that player loses the game." This is especially potent if you can grant Odin abilities like Trample or Flying. Expect to pay a couple of dollars for this card.

Swallowed By Leviathan

This card is particularly useful because counterspells are always valuable (unless you're on the receiving end). This one also lets you Surveil and then forces your opponent to pay additional mana to resolve the countered spell.

Although Swallowed by Leviathan costs three mana, it can significantly frustrate an opponent in the late game, particularly as Commander tax accumulates and every mana becomes crucial. It's available for as low as 13 cents.

Battle Menu

Regardless of its utility, the artwork and the concept of Final Fantasy's turn-based Battle Menu translated into a card is quite appealing.

This two-mana instant spell offers versatility and costs just a few cents. Include it in your White deck; you can easily acquire four copies for under a dollar.

Nibelheim Aflame

Nibelheim Aflame is somewhat more expensive at around $7, but it remains an excellent choice for players seeking an aggressive sorcery that can also be cast from the graveyard, allowing you to refill your hand.

Furthermore, it depicts Sephiroth at Nibelheim, one of the most iconic scenes in the entire Final Fantasy series.

Golbez, Crystal Collector

Golbez was quite popular early in the set's lifecycle, ideal for artifact-centric strategies and players who enjoy reanimation tactics. Its price has now dropped to well below a dollar.

Golbez, Crystal Collector is also efficient mana-wise, costing one blue and one black. It integrates seamlessly into most blue/black artifact decks.

Blitzball

Representing the iconic sport from Final Fantasy X, Blitzball can be tapped for any color of mana. If you control numerous Legendary Creatures, it also enables card draw.

At a price under 50 cents, it's worth picking up both for a dedicated Final Fantasy X collection and for practical deck inclusion.

Black Mage’s Rod

Inexpensive and effective, Black Mage’s Rod is a common artifact costing two mana. It lets you deal 1 damage to an opponent whenever you cast a spell.

Despite featuring Vivi in the art, it requires black mana, so it cannot be used in a deck he commands. However, it synergizes well with Y'shtola, Night's Blessed from the Final Fantasy XIV Commander Deck.
