Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 has reached a new sales milestone, with 80.3 million units shipped globally, according to its latest financial report.

This figure is current as of June 30, 2025, reflecting an increase of 2.5 million consoles shipped in the previous quarter—a slight year-over-year improvement.

PlayStation Network also saw significant growth, with subscriber numbers rising by 7 million compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 123 million users.

Combined sales of PS5 and PS4 games reached 65.9 million units during the last quarter, a year-over-year increase of 12.3 million. Sony’s first-party titles contributed 6.9 million units to this total, up by 900,000 from the same period last year.

After five years on the market, the PS5 is closing in on the lifetime sales of the Xbox 360 (approximately 84 million) and the PS3 (87 million), though it still trails several other major consoles.

The PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console of all time, with 160 million units sold. The Nintendo Switch follows closely at 153 million, while the PS4 has sold 117 million and the original PlayStation 102 million.

How many more PS5 units can Sony sell this generation? The answer largely depends on the length of the current console cycle, with reports indicating a possible PS6 launch in 2027.
