In a recent interview at Gamescom, Ed Boon, the co-founder of Mortal Kombat, shed light on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate between two iconic characters: Omni-Man and Homelander. Addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to creating unique experiences for players with these characters.

Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

During his discussion with IGN, Boon highlighted the creative freedom they have with these characters. He assured that the team will avoid duplicating Superman-esque abilities like heat vision for both Homelander and Omni-Man. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, emphasizing the intent to give each character a distinct feel.

Boon also mentioned that the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities for each character. This approach ensures that the main attacks and overall gameplay will set Homelander and Omni-Man apart, countering assumptions that they might be too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, 'Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon explained.
