"Marvel Rivals Dev: No PvE Mode Planned Currently"
Although Marvel Rivals is a relatively new game, the community is already buzzing with excitement about potential new features. Recent rumors about a PvE boss fight have sparked discussions about the possibility of a full-fledged PvE mode. However, NetEase has clarified that there are no immediate plans for such a mode...yet.
At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the future of the game. When asked about plans for a PvE mode, Wu responded:
"For now we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we found that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."
Following Wu's statement, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in to gauge my interest in a PvE mode for Marvel Rivals. After I expressed my enthusiasm, Wu elaborated:
"Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."
While there are no concrete plans for a PvE mode at the moment, Wu's comments suggest that NetEase is exploring ideas for a "lighter" game mode, possibly in the form of a one-off event or something similar. The company remains tight-lipped about further details.
Marvel Rivals continues to evolve, with new characters being added every month and a half. The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21. We also discussed the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release with Wu and Koo, which you can read about here. Additionally, we addressed the issue of whether NetEase was intentionally misleading dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
