Hasbro has announced plans to bring the beloved card game Magic: The Gathering to screens everywhere. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro is collaborating with Legendary Entertainment to develop a shared universe that will span both movies and TV shows, with the movie taking precedence.

Legendary's chairman of worldwide production expressed their commitment to the project, stating, "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering." Legendary Entertainment, known for films like Dune, the Godzilla series including Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu, is steering this ambitious project.

While details remain somewhat unclear, the report suggests that the movie and TV adaptations at Legendary might not be connected to the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series for Netflix. However, it's possible that plans have evolved, and the animated series could now be integrated into this broader shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, a card game that debuted in 1993 and was created by Wizards of the Coast, has grown into one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast became part of Hasbro in 1999.

Hasbro is well-versed in adapting its products for the screen, with a portfolio that includes G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. The company currently has several projects in development, such as new G.I. Joe movies, a Power Rangers film, and a Beyblade movie.
