"Konami Unveils 'Silent Hill f': A Fresh Start for New and Old Fans Alike"

Author : Violet May 25,2025

Silent Hill f stands out as a unique entry in the Silent Hill series, not serving as a sequel but rather as a standalone story akin to Silent Hill 2. This approach was officially confirmed on X/Twitter by publisher Konami, who announced that this latest addition to the horror franchise will be "a completely new title" designed to be accessible to newcomers. While the series is traditionally set in a fictional east-coast American town, Silent Hill f breaks the mold with its setting in 1960s Japan.

This isn't the first time the series has ventured away from the core storyline. Games like Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins are interconnected, but titles such as Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 4: The Room, and Homecoming have explored different narratives and settings. Konami's statement ensures that players do not need prior knowledge of the 26-year-old series to enjoy Silent Hill f.

Set in the backdrop of 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows the journey of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal and familial pressures. The narrative, penned by Ryukishi07, the mastermind behind the When They Cry series, promises a deep and compelling story. The Japanese-language reveal trailer from March showcased that this game will be the first in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan.

While still in development, Silent Hill f is expected to maintain its mature rating across different regions, with an Mature rating in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. This is a shift from earlier titles in the series, which typically received CERO:C (for ages 15 and up) or CERO:D (for ages 17 and up) ratings.

As of now, there is no confirmed release date for Silent Hill f. Additionally, no further details have been disclosed about No Code's upcoming project in the series, Townfall.
