Konami Unveils Mobile Game: Suikoden STAR LEAP

Exciting news for fans of the classic RPG series: Suikoden is making a comeback in the form of Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, announced by Konami in collaboration with MYTHRIL. This free-to-play game, while not a direct continuation of the series, promises to capture the essence of Suikoden with its familiar themes and elements. Although no specific release date has been shared, fans can look forward to its launch later this year.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Suikoden has been enchanting players since its debut in 1995. Developed and published by Konami, with the creative mind of Yoshitaka Murayama at the helm, the series draws inspiration from the classical Chinese novel Water Margin. Known as Suikoden in Japan, the games are set in a richly detailed world filled with political intrigue, mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. Over the years, the franchise has seen 11 entries, including spin-offs, with the most recent release in 2012. Now, instead of a traditional sequel, Konami is introducing Suikoden STAR LEAP to the mobile platform.

What's in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP will feature an entirely new cast of characters but remains true to the series' tradition of assembling 108 heroes. The game will embrace the nostalgic pixel art style that Suikoden fans love, ensuring a visual connection to the classic games. You can get a sneak peek in the teaser trailer below.

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, is the son of a village chief who experiences his first successful hunt. However, disaster soon strikes as the village comes under attack, setting Hou on a quest to restore peace. Joining him are Hisui, his servant with a mysterious emotional suppression; Shirin, his childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general now serving as a butler.

While the announcement of Suikoden STAR LEAP has stirred excitement, it has also sparked some debate within the community. Long-time fans have been eagerly awaiting a direct sequel, and the introduction of a gacha-based mobile game has left some feeling uncertain. We'll have a clearer picture once the game is released. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website for the latest updates.
