If you're a fan of Hideo Kojima's groundbreaking work in video games, you'll be intrigued to hear about his upcoming project, Physint. Described as a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series, this highly anticipated title remains another five or six years away from release, according to Kojima himself. Speaking with Le Film Francais, Kojima mentioned that his dream of directing a movie would have to wait until he completed his first "action espionage" game since his public departure from Konami in 2015.

"Since leaving Konami, I’ve received numerous offers to develop games at my independent studio," Kojima explained, as translated by ResetEra member Red Kong XIX. "Besides Death Stranding 2, there’s Physint, which will keep me busy for the next few years."

However, Kojima hinted at a possible shift in direction after Physint. "I grew up with cinema, and directing a film would be a homage to that," he shared. "Plus, as I age, I’d rather tackle it while I’m still energetic!"

The announcement of Physint came back in January 2024, courtesy of PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst. While details have been scarce since then, Kojima initially suggested the project might also involve a movie. He later clarified on X/Twitter that its elements—such as the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound—are pushing the boundaries of "digital entertainment," elevating it beyond traditional gaming into something cinematic.

Physint joins other ambitious ventures in Kojima Productions' pipeline, including Death Stranding 2 and OD, a new intellectual property developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. Actress Hunter Schafer and filmmaker Jordan Peele are attached to OD, while Kojima is also involved in A24's adaptation of the original Death Stranding.

Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is slated for release next month on June 26. Star Norman Reedus recently confirmed he'll reprise his role in the upcoming movie adaptation, teasing that he'll once again play himself.

Adding to the intrigue, Kojima recently revealed he left behind a USB stick filled with game ideas for his team to explore posthumously. Among these are several unused concepts, including an intriguing idea for a 'Forgetting Game,' where players lose critical skills if they pause gameplay for too long. [ttpp]
