Edwards' X post featured the game's title card, Genepool Software's logo, and gameplay screenshots. A subsequent post showcased original Xbox gameplay footage, including the startup screen and a tutorial segment set in a desert landscape. The game, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," was reportedly in development following the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge.
Activision's Cancellation Decision
Despite fan enthusiasm, Activision cancelled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards suggested several possibilities: delays in the film's release, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or perhaps another developer was chosen for the project.
The game's Iron Man design, noticeably different from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal, also drew attention. Released nearly five years before Downey Jr.'s debut, the design closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version of the early 2000s. Edwards stated he was unaware of the reasoning behind the design choice.
Edwards promised further gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this footage remains unreleased.
