Martin to Produce Disney's Hercules Animated Film

George R.R. Martin, celebrated author of Game of Thrones, is diversifying his creative portfolio by joining an animated Hercules film production—another venture delaying his work on the highly anticipated Winds of Winter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin will produce this fresh retelling titled A Dozen Tough Jobs, reimagining Hercules' legendary labors through the eyes of a 1920s Mississippi farmer.

While Martin oversees production, scripting duties fall to Joe R. Lansdale—the visionary behind Bubba Ho-Tep's surreal tale of Elvis battling an Egyptian mummy.

"Few creators grasp epic storytelling like George R.R. Martin," remarked David Steward II of Lion Forge Entertainment.

"A Dozen Tough Jobs transcends tradition—we're blending mythological grandeur with historical authenticity to craft something wholly original, rooted yet revolutionary."

The wait continues for Winds of Winter, with no release date in sight—fourteen years after A Dance with Dragons debuted in July 2011.

At 76, Martin still intends to conclude his saga with A Dream of Spring—unlike HBO's divisive Game of Thrones finale that outpaced the books.

Beyond Westeros, Martin contributes to TV spin-offs like House of Dragon, pens franchise lore, and even shaped Elden Ring's mythos.

Martin confessed on his blog that 2024's first half was consumed by TV commitments, further postponing Winds of Winter—a sentiment reinforced by his April 2025 post:

"I'm exhausted dispelling rumors whenever casual remarks spark false hope. WINDS isn't coming soon—period."
