Genki CEO Reveals More Details About Nintendo Switch 2
Genki at CES: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup
Genki, renowned for its handheld gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and confirming earlier speculation. The mockup, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor approaching the size of the Steam Deck.
Key features highlighted include magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic attachment of the Joy-Cons, employing a pin release mechanism within the SL and SR buttons to overcome the magnetic hold. Despite the change from sliding rails to magnets, Tsai assures users of a secure connection during gameplay.
More Switch 2 Details from Genki
Further details emerged from Tsai's interview with The Verge. Each Joy-Con incorporates an optical sensor within its mounting channel, suggesting potential functionality as a mouse via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images seemingly corroborate the presence of these sensors.
While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 maintains a slim profile, fitting within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible with the original dock. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
