Free Epic Games Store Game: January 16 Unveiled

Escape Academy is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This escape-room style puzzle game is the fourth free title offered by EGS in 2025 and boasts the highest OpenCritic score of any EGS freebie so far this year.

Epic Games Store users have a week to claim Escape Academy, starting Thursday, January 16th, replacing Turmoil. The game will be available for free until January 23rd.

Developed by Coin Crew Games, Escape Academy challenges players to master escape rooms as students at the titular academy. Originally released in July 2022 for PC and consoles, this is not the first time it's been offered for free on the EGS (it was a free mystery game on January 1st, 2024), but this marks its first week-long free period. The timing is particularly beneficial for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as Escape Academy is leaving the service on January 15th after an 18-month run.

Escape Academy's "Strong" rating on OpenCritic (80 average score, 88% recommendation) reflects its positive reception. Steam reviews are "Very Positive," with PlayStation and Xbox Store ratings averaging 4.42 and 4.2 stars respectively. The game features a well-regarded online and split-screen multiplayer mode in addition to its single-player experience.

Following Escape Academy, the fifth free game of the year will be announced on January 16th. Players who enjoy the main game can also purchase two DLC packs: "Escape From Anti-Escape Island" and "Escape From the Past," each priced at $9.99, or bundled together for $14.99 as a Season Pass.
