Fortnite reverses its controversial decision about one of the skins

The iconic Master Chief, the face of the Halo franchise (even if hidden behind a helmet), is a hugely popular Fortnite skin. His return to the item shop after a two-year absence was met with cheers, but a small detail soured the celebration.

Initially, a special Matte Black style was offered exclusively to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal therefore caused significant backlash.

Some fans even believed this action might be legally problematic, and began organizing a potential class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style will now be available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X.

This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome. Given the holiday season and the festive spirit of Christmas, such a controversial move would have been poorly received.
