Rumors are swirling that the popular MMORPG, FFXIV, might be making its way to mobile devices. A gaming industry insider, Kurakasis, alleges that Tencent Games and Square Enix are collaborating on a mobile port.

A History of Mobile Final Fantasy:

This isn't Square Enix's first foray into mobile Final Fantasy games. However, previous attempts have yielded mixed results. While Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis received a lukewarm reception, Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia was ultimately shut down. Therefore, adapting the complex FFXIV to mobile is a significant challenge.

Unverified, But Not Impossible:

It's crucial to remember that this information is unconfirmed. Square Enix hasn't officially commented. However, past collaborations between Square Enix and Tencent hint at the possibility. In 2018, the two companies discussed potential collaborations, and in 2021, then-president Yosuke Matsuda alluded to ongoing projects with Tencent.

Kurakasis' leak provides no timeframe. The project may be in its early stages or might not even materialize. An official announcement is likely some time away.
