The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks’ faction, has long been a beloved element in the Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, seamlessly weaving into the game's rich narrative. Our initial exploration of Jadame introduced us to creatures intrinsically linked to the Dungeon faction, each possessing their own domains on the continent. This has allowed developers to create a faction that is both steeped in tradition and brimming with innovative concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction throughout the series in just two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be fitting. Revisiting the world of Enroth provides an opportunity to redefine these formidable warlocks, drawing inspiration from the lore of Jadame, particularly from Might and Magic VIII and the Alvaric Pact, to reimagine the Dungeon faction.

Creatures once perceived as monsters now form alliances with red-skinned dark elves, a group historically marginalized due to their pragmatic approach. Through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts, they have grown stronger, marking a significant evolution from the faction's earlier iterations.

Throughout the Heroes series, skilled warlocks and commanding leaders have been central to the playable cities, with each game offering a unique portrayal:

  • In Heroes I and Heroes II, the servants of Lord Alamar and King Archibald pursued power, rallying like-minded creatures to their cause.
  • In Heroes III, Nighon’s warlords embraced the philosophy that strength justifies dominance, ruling from underground tunnels while harboring ambitions of conquering Antagarich.
  • In Heroes IV, chaotic sorcerers and thieves occupied Axeoth’s swamps, uniting rogues to seize territory in the burgeoning world.
  • From Heroes V through VII, Ashan’s dark elves allied with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich in intrigue.
