Destiny 1 Gets Surprising Update Seven Years Later
Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Decorated in Surprise Update
Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's Tower social space has received an unexpected update, featuring festive lights and decorations. This surprise, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked much speculation among the community. The decorations bear a resemblance to past seasonal events, particularly The Dawning, though without accompanying quests or event markers.
The original Destiny, while still playable, largely ceded its active development to Destiny 2 in 2017. However, Bungie continues to integrate legacy content into the sequel, showcasing the enduring appeal of the original game. This unexpected Tower update adds another layer to this legacy.
A Forgotten Event?
Theories abound regarding the source of this unexpected update. Reddit users, citing evidence from Breshi's video, suggest a connection to a scrapped event titled "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. The unused assets from this cancelled event appear strikingly similar to the current Tower decorations, leading many to believe a forgotten future date was mistakenly activated. This suggests the assets were scheduled for removal at a later point, a point Bungie likely assumed would be after Destiny 1's player base had significantly dwindled.
As of this writing, Bungie has yet to comment on the update. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. Therefore, while this is not an official event, players can currently enjoy this unexpected treat in the original Destiny's Tower before Bungie likely removes it.
