Deltarune Ch. 4 Progressing | Release Unconfirmed
Deltarune Chapter 4 Update: Nearing Completion, but Release Remains Distant
Toby Fox, the creative mind behind Deltarune and Undertale, recently shared a development update in his newsletter, offering insights into the progress of the highly anticipated Chapters 3 and 4.
While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, with all maps finished and battles playable, Fox clarified that a release date is still some time away. He noted the need for polishing, including minor cutscene improvements, battle balancing and visual enhancements, and refining ending sequences for several battles. Despite this, he considers Chapter 4 largely playable, having received positive feedback from playtesters.
The challenge, Fox explained, lies in the multi-platform and multilingual release. Unlike the free release of the first two chapters, this marks the first significant paid release since Undertale, necessitating meticulous attention to detail and thorough testing. The team faces key tasks before launch, encompassing testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.
Chapter 3 development is complete, according to a previous newsletter. Interestingly, pre-production on Chapter 5 has begun, with map creation and combat design already underway. The newsletter included tantalizing previews: dialogue snippets featuring Ralsei and Rouxls Kaard, a character description for Elnina, and a glimpse at a new item, GingerGuard.
Although a specific release date remains unannounced, Fox assures fans that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will surpass the combined length of the first two chapters. He also expressed confidence that future chapter releases will be more streamlined once Chapters 3 and 4 are launched. While the wait continues, the update offers a reassuring glimpse into the ongoing development and the ambitious scope of the upcoming release.
