"Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Unveiled: A Dystopian Chicago Adventure"
The much-anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is set to introduce a thrilling new location alongside the iconic Night City. Described as a "Chicago gone wrong," this new setting promises a unique atmosphere that diverges from the familiar Blade Runner-esque vibes of Night City. At the Digital Dragons 2025 conference, R. Talsorian Games founder Mike Pondsmith shared insights into the game's development, expressing his excitement about the new city's direction. "I remember looking at it and going, 'I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong'. And I said, 'yeah, I can see this working'," Pondsmith enthused.
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has also been actively expanding its team for Cyberpunk 2, with new job listings posted earlier this year. A notable opening is for a Lead Encounter Designer, tasked with creating "memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players." The role also involves collaborating with the systems design team to develop "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date," signaling CDPR's ambition to push the boundaries of game design.
While details on Project Orion remain scarce, the involvement of Pondsmith and CDPR's recruitment efforts suggest that the sequel will enhance the intricate storytelling and world-building that made its predecessor a standout title.
Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port Updates
In other exciting news, CDPR has released new footage showcasing the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port. The studio has worked diligently to optimize the game for Nintendo's upcoming handheld console, with over 37 minutes of B-roll footage available on their website. Despite earlier reports from showcase events in New York and Paris highlighting performance issues, particularly frame drops, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress. "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result," Green told Game File on April 25.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is scheduled for release on Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. This edition includes the full base game, all updates since its launch, and the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion. Stay tuned for more updates and detailed information about this highly anticipated port.
