The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a much-anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorn, will reprise his role and also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who confirmed his return for Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its original limited series format, has been elevated to the role of executive producer, having produced the first season. Production for the new season is slated to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.

PlayFX has described the forthcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that diverges from the adaptation of James Clavell’s novel used in the first season. The network elaborated on the narrative connection between the two seasons, stating:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival against a united Council of Regents. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, with its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), provided Toranaga with crucial strategic secrets that shifted the balance of power in his favor, ultimately helping him win a pivotal civil war.

"Season two of Shōgun is set a decade after the events of the first season and will continue the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds, whose fates remain deeply intertwined.”

Fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of this stellar series can look forward to new episodes hopefully by the end of 2026, although for now, all we can do is wait and hope for the best.
