The Hollow Knight community was thrust into a whirlwind of speculation once again, thanks to William Pellen, one of the game's creators, and his intriguing Twitter (X) activity on the eve of and during the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen posted on Twitter (X) that "something big is coming. Keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This cryptic message likely hinted at the leaked Switch 2 reveal scheduled for January 16. Naturally, questions about Silksong’s release date surged, but Pellen’s subsequent actions intensified the speculation.

On January 16, 2025, as the Switch 2 announcement unfolded and revealed an upcoming direct release on April 2, 2025, a keen-eyed fan noticed Pellen's profile picture had changed to a slice of cake. A reverse image search traced the image back to a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Pellen also left a comment on that article, stating "mmmm tasty." Dedicated fans scoured the comments, where discussions about Silksong intertwined with cake reviews. One fan boldly promised, "If we get real Silksong news by April 2nd, 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan praised the recipe, saying, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favorite recipes," cleverly linking the game and Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

While it remains unconfirmed whether Pellen was indeed the one who commented on the cake recipe’s article, his updated Twitter (X) profile picture is undeniable. Pellen seems to be hinting at something, though it could just as well be nothing at all.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially announced on February 14, 2019, and was initially planned for release on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This sequel to Hollow Knight focuses on Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom ruled by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry provided a sneak peek of Hollow Knight’s soundtrack, crafted by Christopher Larkin. Following this update, the development team maintained a prolonged silence for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still under development. He promised that reveals and significant updates would be shared as Silksong neared its release date. By June of the same year, Team Cherry unveiled another trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing new gameplay footage and announcing that the game would be available on Game Pass upon launch.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's representative Matthew Griffin confirmed a delay in May 2023. "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing," Matthew stated. "We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Even after more than five years, Hollow Knight’s fanbase remains robust, actively engaging in community forums and eagerly seeking any scraps of information about Silksong. However, since the delay announcement, little has been revealed about the game, except that the developers continue to work diligently on it.
