"11 Bit Studios Links This War of Mine to The Alters"

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled another trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as the game edges closer to its release date. In a nostalgic nod to their past, the creators also took a moment to celebrate one of their most iconic titles: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which garnered them global acclaim more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim and despairing ambiance, The Alters pivots to a more passionate and frequently humorous storyline that explores the challenges faced by various alternate versions of its protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these stark tonal differences, 11 Bit Studios highlights a deep thematic link between the two games.
Although set in vastly different worlds and tones, both titles center around the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the harrowing realities of war, managing resources and overcoming daily struggles to ensure the survival of their group in a besieged city. Conversely, The Alters casts survival as a frantic race against time, compelling players to maneuver their mobile base to escape an unforgiving sun that threatens to turn everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones and brave hostile environments in the quest for scarce resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of disparate civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival adventure.
