Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then pushed to mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.

GGG had previously committed to continued support for PoE 1 alongside the release of PoE 2. However, the PoE 1 team was reassigned to assist with PoE 2's endgame development before its December launch. While GGG anticipated a swift return to PoE 1's 3.26 update after addressing PoE 2's initial issues, this proved unrealistic.

In a video address, Jonathan Rogers, PoE 2 game director and GGG co-founder, acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. PoE 2's launch, while ultimately successful, experienced unforeseen crashes and balance problems requiring immediate attention. He stated that diverting experienced developers from PoE 2 during this critical period was unwise.

The delay is open-ended, with Rogers stating that the PoE 1 team will remain focused on PoE 2 until at least version 0.2.0 is released, and possibly for a couple of weeks beyond that. He expressed sincere regret for the situation and admitted to overconfidence in the studio's ability to manage two major game releases concurrently. A revised plan for PoE 1's 3.26 update is in progress.

PoE 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, was a significant success, achieving a remarkable ranking as one of Steam's top 15 most-played games. To assist players, GGG has provided class selection guidance, build guides (including Mercenary and Sorceress builds), and resources addressing in-game mechanics like Spirit acquisition, trading, and ascension.
