According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, accompanied by a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the price Warner Bros. was considering. The company declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.

This cancellation comes amidst a period of restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves including the cancellation of its planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. Additionally, Warner Bros. shut down WB San Diego and MultiVersus studio Player First Games. The company also conducted layoffs at Rocksteady as recently as last September.

Despite the setback with the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," aligning with its strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. This emphasis is understandable given that the first game has achieved remarkable sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
