Suikoden's latest venture into mobile gaming, Suikoden STAR LEAP, promises an experience reminiscent of console gaming. In an insightful interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, Star Leap's development team shared their vision for the game.

Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu highlighted the strategic decision to target mobile platforms: "Our goal was to introduce Suikoden to as many people as possible. Mobile is the most accessible platform, and we want to ensure that the essence of Suikoden remains intact. We're taking on the challenge of creating a mainline installment on this platform."

The team's ambition is clear: to deliver a game that matches the quality of console titles in visuals, sound, and storytelling, while leveraging the convenience of mobile devices.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized the essence of Suikoden, which revolves around war and friendship: "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to portray the saga of the new 108 stars, embodying the spirit of Suikoden Genso."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan added to this by detailing the series' unique blend of light-hearted camaraderie and intense battle sequences: "Suikoden's charm lies in its upbeat atmosphere and the bonds between friends, alongside its serious moments. The cooperative nature of battles, where numerous characters participate, is a hallmark of the series."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap will weave through different eras, serving as both a sequel and prequel to the Suikoden series. It begins two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spans across other periods, making it an integral part of the series' canon.

Fujimatsu expressed his excitement for the game: "We've crafted Star Leap to be accessible to newcomers while staying true to the Suikoden legacy. Whether you're new to the series or a long-time fan, this mobile game is designed to be your entry point into Suikoden Genso."

Suikoden STAR LEAP was unveiled during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other exciting updates for the series. The game is in development for iOS and Android platforms, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
