Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't even begun. He revealed in an interview with Decider that he hasn't yet recorded any lines, and that many aspects of the film are still "being figured out."

This news shouldn't come as a complete surprise, considering the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about the commencement of production. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things are being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively small, his character is poised to become a central antagonist in the third installment. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: He portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, revealed at the film's conclusion not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.

In this alternate reality, the radioactive spider bite intended for Miles shifted to Peter Parker's reality, resulting in a drastically different outcome. Without the Spider-Man mantle, and following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, Miles's Earth fell under the control of supervillains, ultimately leading to his own transformation into one.

The narrative conflict between this villainous Miles and the main protagonist will likely be a key element of Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans will have to exercise patience, as Deadline suggests a 2026 release at the earliest, or potentially as late as 2028 if the production timeline mirrors that of its predecessor.
