Author : Lucas Mar 21,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles. This shift was announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly game reveals. The announcement clarifies that PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and the Game Catalog. However, subscribers retain access to any PS4 games already claimed, and Games Catalog titles remain playable until their scheduled removal from the catalog. Sony emphasizes its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, highlighting continued benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company cites a player shift towards PS5 gaming as the primary reason for this change, noting increased redemption and access of PS5 titles.

The future of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog, currently featuring PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 titles, remains unconfirmed. Sony plans to provide further details closer to the implementation date.
