PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a splash at CES 2025, announcing a significant expansion of its video game adaptation pipeline. The January 7th presentation revealed several projects slated for release in 2025 and beyond.

New Adaptations Announced:

The showcase highlighted several key adaptations:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Series: A new anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a co-op mode from the acclaimed game, is in development with Crunchyroll and Aniplex, set for an exclusive Crunchyroll premiere in 2027. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, Gen Urobuchi will handle story composition, and Sony Music will contribute to the soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 Films: Film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (produced by Columbia Pictures) are underway, though details remain scarce.

• Until Dawn Film Adaptation: A film adaptation of Until Dawn is scheduled for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two: Neil Druckmann revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, confirming its adaptation of the The Last of Us Part II storyline, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Future Prospects:

PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has already achieved box office success with film adaptations of Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023). The Twisted Metal series (Peacock, 2023) also saw a second season completed in late 2024, though a release date is pending.

The company also has ongoing projects, including films based on Days Gone and a sequel to the Uncharted film, as well as a God of War TV series.

The continued expansion of PlayStation Productions suggests a strong commitment to bringing more beloved PlayStation franchises to life in new mediums, driven by both fan demand and the proven financial viability of these adaptations.
