Phil Spencer Reaffirms Xbox Support for Switch 2, Praises Nintendo Partnership
Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it seems the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox remains strong. In a recent interview with Variety, Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, emphasized his commitment to the Switch platform as a means to connect with gamers outside of Xbox and PC ecosystems.
When asked about potential projects specifically targeting the Nintendo Switch 2, Spencer reiterated Microsoft’s ongoing support for Nintendo’s platform. “Nintendo has been a fantastic partner,” Spencer stated. “It provides us with a unique opportunity to engage with players who aren’t on our platforms. This helps us expand our audience and continue investing in the games we love.”
Spencer has long championed Nintendo’s innovations, particularly praising the initial teaser for the Switch 2. He also confirmed that Xbox will continue releasing its titles across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.
Despite being curious about what Xbox has planned for its own console lineup following the Switch 2 unveiling, Spencer expressed no urgency to reveal upcoming plans. Instead, he stressed focusing on building strong communities and serving existing player bases.
Xbox remains dedicated to distributing its games across various platforms, such as cloud, PC, and consoles. While titles like Pentiment and Obsidian’s Grounded have already made their way to Nintendo platforms, it will be intriguing to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 upon its release.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025. Stay tuned to our pre-order hub for updates on when pre-orders will become available.
