MultiVersus Players Praise Major Season 5 Gameplay Changes Ahead of Server Shutdown — and Now #SaveMultiVersus Is Trending Online

MultiVersus is set to shut down in May after Season 5, but a recent update dramatically increased combat speed, revitalizing gameplay and sparking a #SaveMultiVersus social media campaign. The community enthusiastically embraced Season 5, launched February 4th, featuring Aquaman and Lola Bunny as the final playable characters. However, the update's sweeping movement changes, a long-requested feature, transformed the game's pace, making it significantly faster and more fluid. This is a stark contrast to the floaty gameplay criticized during the 2022 beta and even the relaunch in May 2024.

A Season 5 Combat Changes Preview video highlighted the speed increase, attributed to reduced hit pause on most attacks. Many characters, including Morty, LeBron, Iron Giant, Bugs Bunny, and Black Adam, received additional speed adjustments, particularly with fast falls on aerial attacks. Garnet's adjustments balanced her already-high speed.

Season 5 fundamentally altered MultiVersus, offering more than just new characters. Yet, this improved experience is short-lived, as the game shuts down on May 30th, ending seasonal content and online play, leaving only offline modes.

This timing has left fans stunned and frustrated. One Reddit user called it "the most interesting bad game in existence," highlighting its tumultuous journey. Professional player Mew2King questioned why these speed improvements weren't implemented sooner. Another Reddit user noted that the update fixed many issues, creating a more polished experience, and expressed hope for a potential reversal of the shutdown plans, citing the game's newfound potential.

Despite player pleas, Player First and Warner Bros. haven't reversed course. Director Tony Huynh shared closing thoughts, addressing player concerns. Real-money transactions ended January 31st, but the Season 5 premium battle pass is free. MultiVersus will officially end on May 30th at 9 am PT. While the shutdown is imminent, the community finds bittersweet joy in the game's final, improved form, sharing memes and celebrating the unexpected quality leap before its demise.
