MultiVersus Closes, Players Pay Emotional Farewell
MultiVersus, the free-to-play crossover fighting game released in 2024, will soon be shut down permanently.
Back in January, Player First Games announced that Season 5 would be MultiVersus's final season, confirming the game's servers would close for good at 5 PM PDT (12 PM EDT) on May 30, 2025. The title is widely viewed as a significant misstep for Warner Bros. Discovery; during a November 2024 financial call, the company acknowledged that MultiVersus's performance fell far short of expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown for its games division. This loss compounded the financial damage, bringing the division's total losses to $300 million following the underwhelming launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League earlier that January.
Merely a month after this announcement, Warner Bros. revealed the cancellation of its planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of three studios: Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and MultiVersus developer Player First Games.
In a forum thread titled "Tomorrow Multiversus shuts down, what are the final things you have to say about the game," hundreds of players shared their parting thoughts, reminiscing about their favorite in-game moments.
"MultiVersus was a dream game. It was a platform fighter that emphasized fast-paced, offensive action and 2v2 gameplay with a strong focus on team synergy," wrote one fan. "Beyond its core concept, the voice casting was outstanding. Many original voice actors returned to their iconic roles—like the late Kevin Conroy as Batman, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Kate Micucci as Velma, John DiMaggio as Jake, and Eric Bauza as Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian—along with fantastic character interactions during and after matches.
"While some roster picks and character move decisions were puzzling (such as Banana Guard and Shaggy's 'Ultra Instinct' inspired moveset), I can't deny that most of the movesets were brilliantly creative. There will never be another game quite like MultiVersus."

"Nothing can top the feeling of playing the beta back in '22. I was completely hooked on the game's fast-paced nature," another player replied. "I remember being sick and playing nothing else. I'll miss it dearly and hope it gets a second life with a sequel or revival someday."
"This game will always hold a special place in my heart, right next to PlayStation All-Stars," one player reminisced, while another added: "Playing as Tom and Jerry was one of the most unique and enjoyable fighting game experiences of my life and rekindled my love for the genre."

Some in the community are holding onto a sliver of optimism, though most accept the game is gone for good, especially given "the IP licensing nightmare" involved in any potential revival. Despite this, a few dedicated fans are attempting to preserve the game in some form before the servers go offline.
"While MultiVersus may not become a staple at local parties, its refreshing team-based combat makes it a standout online platform fighter," we noted in IGN's review of MultiVersus, where we awarded it an 8 out of 10.
