Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

The temporary US shutdown of TikTok on January 19th unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). The game went offline for a day before being restored, though in-app purchases remain unavailable.

This disruption prompted Second Dinner Studios, Marvel Snap's developer, to explore a publisher change and internal service migration, as detailed in an official Platform X statement. The move is a direct response to the inherent political risks associated with ByteDance's ownership of TikTok. The company was granted only a 90-day extension to sell a 50% stake to a US entity, leaving Marvel Snap vulnerable to future blockades should this deal fail.

While PC players via Steam remained unaffected, many users reported authorization problems. Second Dinner expressed surprise at the event and assured players, via Platform X, that "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress." The lack of prior warning, resulting in continued in-app spending by unaware players, added to the frustration. Second Dinner promised further updates.
