Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been confirmed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the 3DS, was developed by Next Level Games. This new HD version, announced last September and slated for release on June 27th, sees Luigi once again battling ghosts in Evershade Valley to recover the fragments of the Dark Moon and defeat King Boo.

While the game's release is imminent, the developer's identity remained a secret until recently revealed by VGC. Tantalus Media's credits are listed in the Luigi's Mansion 2 HD game files. Their experience extends beyond Nintendo projects, including work on Sonic Mania (Switch port), House of the Dead (PC port), and contributions to the Age of Empires Definitive Editions.

Early reviews suggest Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is another successful Nintendo remaster, following in the footsteps of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has unfortunately experienced pre-order issues mirroring those encountered by Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling some orders.

Nintendo's practice of withholding developer information until close to launch continues with Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. This mirrors the late announcement of the Super Mario RPG remake's developer, ArtePiazza. The pattern suggests that the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Fury may also remain undisclosed for some time.
