Insomniac Games Eyes 'Ratchet and Clank' Sequel
Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations Following CEO's Retirement
Insomniac Games, renowned for its Ratchet & Clank franchise, has signaled its interest in further game-to-screen adaptations. This follows the recent retirement of founder and CEO Ted Price, and was revealed in an interview with Variety.
Insomniac's Future in Film and Television
Co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider expressed enthusiasm for future adaptations, specifically mentioning the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film as a starting point. The acquisition by Sony in 2019 has bolstered Insomniac's confidence, given Sony's successful track record with game adaptations like The Last of Us.
Sony's Expanding Game Adaptation Portfolio
Sony's success with Uncharted (2022) and The Last of Us (2023) underscores its commitment to this space. Further projects announced at CES 2025 include The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025), an Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025), a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027), and films based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn, though release dates for the latter two remain unannounced.
Ted Price's Retirement and Insomniac's New Leadership
After 30 years at the helm, Ted Price has retired from Insomniac Games, the studio behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man. He's been succeeded by three long-time Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as Co-Studio Heads. Price emphasized the importance of internal leadership familiar with the company's culture and processes.
