Monster Hunter Wilds: Gender-Locked Armor is a Thing of the Past
Fashion Hunting Enters a New Era
For years, Monster Hunter players have longed for the freedom to choose any armor, regardless of their character's gender. That dream is now a reality! Capcom's Gamescom Developer Stream confirmed a major update for Monster Hunter Wilds: the elimination of gender-locked armor sets.
A Capcom developer, showcasing starting armors, confirmed, "In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor were separate. But in Monster Hunter Wilds, there's no more male and female armor. All characters can wear any gear."
The announcement sparked joyous reactions, particularly among "fashion hunters" who prioritize aesthetics. Previously, players were limited by gender-specific designs, missing out on desired armor pieces simply due to their assigned gender.
Imagine wanting that Rathian skirt as a male hunter, or the Daimyo Hermitaur set as a female hunter, only to find it unavailable. This limitation was especially frustrating, as male armor often leaned towards bulky designs, while female armor was sometimes more revealing than some players preferred.
The problem extended beyond aesthetics. In Monster Hunter: World, for example, a voucher system allowed gender changes, but subsequent vouchers required real-money purchases. This meant players wanting specific armor sets had to pay to achieve their desired look.
While not officially confirmed, Monster Hunter Wilds will likely retain the "layered armor" system from previous games. This, combined with the removal of gender restrictions, unlocks a vast array of customization options for players.
Beyond the gender-neutral armor, the Gamescom stream also revealed two new monsters: Lala Barina and Rey Dau. For more on Monster Hunter Wilds' exciting new features and creatures, check out the related article!
