Hogwarts Legacy: Magical Misadventures Continue in the Wizarding World
NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game will continue in Asia and select MENA regions, this regional End of Service (EOS) announcement marks the end of an era for many players.
Initially launched in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game enjoyed a promising start. However, post-launch momentum faltered, leading to this decision.
The game's blend of Clash Royale-style gameplay and the Harry Potter universe initially resonated with players. The card-battling mechanics and wizard duels successfully captured the Hogwarts atmosphere.
Despite its initial appeal, player complaints regarding a pay-to-win system and changes to the reward structure contributed to its decline. Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with nerfs and slower progression for free-to-play users after a reward system overhaul. The game was removed from the Google Play Store in affected regions on August 26th, 2024.
For players in regions where the game remains available, the experience includes dorm life, classes, uncovering secrets, and wizard duels. Those in the affected regions will have until October 29th to enjoy their final spells.
