God of War character artist and game developer Glauco Longhi hinted that Santa Monica Studio is developing a new game franchise. This is based on Longhi's LinkedIn profile, where he noted rejoining the Sony studio earlier this year to lead character development on an "unannounced project."

Longhi's career with Santa Monica Studio included work on God of War (2018) and he served as lead character artist on God of War Ragnarök. Longhi stated the studio offered him the chance to return and oversee the project's "character development pipeline."

"Supervising/Directing Character development on an unannounced project, and also assisting the studio in consistently improving Character Development for video games," Longhi's updated profile states.

Santa Monica Studio's creative director, Cory Barlog, who helmed the 2018 God of War remake, previously stated that the studio was "working on diverse projects," and notably, Longhi's LinkedIn profile also indicates that the studio is actively hiring. Specifically, the studio has sought a character artist and tools programmer for the past few months, suggesting team expansion as development advances.

Speculation abounds regarding Santa Monica Studio developing a new sci-fi IP, possibly under the direction of Stig Asmussen, the creative director of God of War 3. However, this remains unconfirmed and unannounced by the developers. Earlier this year, Sony reportedly trademarked "Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet," but the company has offered no further information. Years ago, the studio was associated with a secretive PS4 project, rumored to be sci-fi themed, but supposedly canceled.
