In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This version of the game, which first debuted on the PS4 in 2020 and was later enhanced for the PS5, marks the beginning of a trilogy that reimagines the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade not only enhances the graphics and lighting from the original PS4 release but also introduces the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja, Yuffie, in Midgar.

Currently available on PS5 and PC, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will leverage the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2 to deliver a full-spec experience of Midgar. Hamaguchi expressed enthusiasm about the game's portability, noting, "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs." He highlighted the convenience of playing on the go, suggesting, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This portability, he believes, will facilitate easier sharing and discussion of the game among players.

The Switch 2 version of Intergrade will also feature GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time, enhancing the social aspect of the gaming experience. Hamaguchi shared his excitement, stating, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and expressed hope for a robust partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2, Hamaguchi's closing remarks hinted at potential future releases for the other entries in the trilogy, Rebirth and the final installment, on the same platform. He concluded, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2."

The Final Fantasy series, which originally debuted on Nintendo consoles, shifted to the PlayStation with Final Fantasy VII in 1997, marking its transition to 3D gaming. With the upcoming Switch 2 release, fans will see the return of Final Fantasy VII to Nintendo hardware, completing a nostalgic loop in the series' storied history.
