Epic Launches Lego Helldivers: 4-Player PvE
Long before Fortnite revolutionized gaming as a battle royale titan, Epic Games' shooter debuted as a PVE experience called Save the World, where teams collaborated to fend off zombie hordes.
Now Fortnite revisits its origins with Lego Fortnite Expeditions, a mission-driven PVE mode supporting four-player co-op that blends the game's existing Lego mechanics with Helldivers' strategic gameplay.
In Expeditions, players gather at the Academy hub to select combat missions across three distinct locations. Completing these missions contributes to global Team Projects that unlock universal buffs and additional content. Between missions, players can relax at the Academy and complete Assignments from Fortnite's iconic characters.
Expeditions introduces three upgradable hero classes at launch: Shadow Caller excels at aerial combat and explosive ranged attacks while utilizing Shadow Form for tactical retreats; Hunter wields Bull's-eye Blade to amplify team damage and precision; Rift Ripper maneuvers strategically across battles with rift crystals and class buffs.
Epic Games intends Expeditions to join Fortnite's permanent lineup as the third major Lego experience, complementing survival-based Lego Odyssey and life-simulator Lego Brick Life. Unlike previous standalone Lego modes, Expeditions integrates characters and antagonists from Fortnite's primary Battle Royale narrative.
The mode's launch pits players against Mask Maker Daigo and his forces while teaming up with Battle Royale heroes like Jonesy and Hope. A gameplay trailer also teases connections to the current superhero season—featuring Superman and its distinctive "Super" branding—suggesting future thematic alignment with Battle Royale updates.
Fortnite's latest superhero season follows its recent Star Wars Death Star event. This week marks significant additions, including Blitz Royale—a streamlined 32-player battle royale optimized for mobile play. Both Blitz Royale and Lego Fortnite Expeditions arrive on June 18.
