Dr Disrespect Admits to \'Twitch Whisper Messages With an Individual Minor\'
Dr Disrespect, the popular online streamer, has publicly acknowledged sending inappropriate messages to an underage individual via Twitch Whispers, a now-defunct private messaging feature. This admission sheds light on the circumstances surrounding his 2019 Twitch ban, a situation previously shrouded in speculation.
Four years after his ban and subsequent legal settlement with Twitch, former Twitch employee Cody Conners's Twitter claims reignited the controversy. Conners alleged that Dr Disrespect's ban resulted from "sexting a minor." While initial reports suggested the inappropriate messages were sent shortly before the ban, Dr Disrespect clarified that the conversations occurred in 2017.
In a lengthy statement, Dr Disrespect admitted to engaging in conversations that were inappropriately suggestive, but insisted there were no malicious intentions and no in-person meeting ever took place. This directly addresses Conners's assertion that the streamer aimed to meet the minor at TwitchCon. His statement garnered millions of views within a short time, but faced criticism for initially omitting the reference to a "minor" before subsequently correcting the post.
The controversy also impacted Dr Disrespect's involvement with Midnight Society, his game development studio. While Midnight Society initially stated it severed ties with him to uphold its principles, Dr Disrespect described the decision as a mutual one and apologized to his colleagues, fans, and family.
Despite the fallout, Dr Disrespect plans to return to streaming after an extended break, stating he feels relieved to have addressed the situation. He also rejected the accusations of predatory behavior leveled against him on social media.
