Gear up, Guardians! Bungie has just pulled back the curtain on an exciting lineup for Destiny 2, introducing two new expansions and a slew of updates under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy." This year promises to be packed with four significant content releases, split between two paid expansions and two free updates for all players.

Kicking things off is Rite of the Nine, a free update that's already live and offers a fresh twist on dungeon diving. Whether you're a seasoned explorer or new to the depths, you'll find familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep with unique twists, new encounters with Orin, and revamped dungeon weapons.

On July 15, dive into Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, the first of the paid expansions and the start of a multiyear saga involving the enigmatic Nine. Meet new ally Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard Ikora as you explore the new destination, Kepler. This location promises puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges akin to Destiny 2's dungeons, along with new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.

Simultaneously on July 15, expect major core game innovations. These include revamped armor and gear systems to enhance buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This screen allows players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, tailored for solo players seeking quick, self-contained sessions. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

Pre-order bonuses for The Edge of Fate include an instantly unlockable Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. The Year of Prophecy Edition sweetens the deal with both The Edge of Fate and Renegades campaigns, a new Raid and Dungeon, multiple Rewards Passes, and exclusive items. The Ultimate Edition adds an instant unlock Exotic Sniper Rifle, New Land Beyond, along with its ornament and catalyst, and a plethora of additional exclusive content, including a Collector's Edition that has already sold out.

Mark your calendars for September 9, when the Ash & Iron update rolls out, followed by the Renegades expansion on December 2. Inspired by the Star Wars universe, Renegades promises to blend Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi themes. The year wraps up with the Shadow & Order update on March 3, 2026.

This news comes as a beacon of hope following Bungie's layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, less than a year after another 100 layoffs. Alongside Destiny 2, Bungie is also working on Marathon, a reboot of their classic franchise, which received a promising hands-on preview from IGN in its alpha state.
