How to Cook & Eat Meals Before Hunting in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster hunting in Monster Hunter Wilds demands thorough preparation, and fueling up with a hearty meal is key. Unlike World and Rise, where helpful Palicos handle cooking, you're in charge of your own sustenance. Here's how to prepare and enjoy your meals:
Cooking and Eating Meals in Monster Hunter Wilds
There are two convenient methods for cooking:
- In your tent: After accepting a quest, head to your tent. Access the BBQ menu (L1 or R1), and select "Grill a Meal."
- Portable BBQ Grill: Equip the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory and press the square button to initiate cooking.
Which Meals to Cook?
The cooking menu offers three options: Recommended, Custom, and Favorite.
Recommended Meals: These are straightforward, using a Ration and any extra ingredients. A Ration-only meal provides a 30-minute buff (+50 Health, +150 Stamina, +2 Attack). Adding ingredients extends this buff by 20 minutes. This is a solid baseline for hunt preparation.
Custom Meals: For tailored buffs, select the custom option. Choose one Ration (meat, fish, or vegetables, each offering different stat boosts like increased attack, defense, or elemental resistance), one ingredient, and a finishing touch. Ingredients and finishing touches further enhance your meal, potentially boosting gathering rates or reducing damage taken.
Once your meal is ready, your Hunter automatically eats, preparing you for the hunt.
