COD Black Ops 7 Dev Leaks Playtest Details on Public App
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has taken an unexpected turn after confidential details of a developer-only playtest were mistakenly shared with the public via the Call of Duty app. Among the leaked content were previously unrevealed multiplayer modes, including a surprising 20v20 wingsuit variant.
According to reports from CharlieIntel on X (formerly Twitter), “An internal, developer-only Black Ops 7 playtest was set to begin this weekend. [Activision or developers Treyarch/Raven Software] accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox through the Call of Duty app, instead.”
CharlieIntel also shared screenshots revealing unannounced gameplay elements, including two new modes: Skirmish and Overload.
The Skirmish mode description stated: "Two teams of 20 players engage in objective-based combat across a large map. Capture key points, destroy payloads, and transmit critical data to earn points. Utilize your wingsuit to outmaneuver and reach objectives before the opposing team. The first team to reach the score limit claims victory."The second mode, Overload, is described as a smaller-scale tactical experience: "Two teams of six players compete to control a neutral EMP device that must be transported to the enemy HQ to earn points. Reach the score limit by successfully delivering multiple EMP devices and secure your win."

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 earlier this month. It marks the first time in franchise history that a Black Ops title is being released consecutively, following Black Ops 6. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, emphasized that “as a team, our vision from the start was to create a back-to-back series experience for our players that embraced the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise.”
The game features a star-studded cast, including Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia plays David Mason, Shipka portrays the new character Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns to reprise his role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.
In related news, Activision recently removed controversial in-game advertisements that had appeared in Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts. The company clarified that the ads were part of a “feature test” mistakenly published to live players.
It’s also worth noting that Black Ops 6 is a premium $70 title, and with Microsoft announcing that new first-party games will retail for $79.99 during the holiday season, it’s expected that Black Ops 7 will follow suit with an $80 price tag.
And for fans who missed it, Beavis and Butt-Head have already made their way into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, adding a dash of comedic flair to the franchise.
