Chris Evans Denies Return to Marvel Cinematic Universe Despite Rumors

Despite reports suggesting his return, Chris Evans has definitively stated he will not be reprising his role as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday or any other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film. Evans directly refuted a Deadline report claiming his comeback alongside Robert Downey Jr., calling it "not true" in an interview with Esquire.

This contradicts information shared by Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America, who initially told Esquire that his manager informed him of Evans' return. However, Mackie later clarified that Evans himself denied this in a recent conversation, stating he is "happily retired."

Evans' statement to Esquire firmly shuts down the recurring rumors surrounding his MCU return, a phenomenon he's experienced since Avengers: Endgame. He confirmed he is not reconsidering his retirement from the franchise.

While Evans has appeared in the MCU indirectly through his Fox character Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, this was a significantly smaller role than his portrayal of Captain America.

The MCU's future remains somewhat uncertain following the removal of Jonathan Majors from the franchise due to assault and harassment charges. Majors was set to play Kang, the intended successor to Thanos as the main antagonist, but his departure has reportedly caused significant disruption to Marvel's plans.

Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., has been announced as the new primary villain. This announcement fueled speculation about the return of other original Avengers, but no further confirmations have been made.

Benedict Cumberbatch, the Doctor Strange actor, confirmed his character's absence from Avengers: Doomsday, but revealed a "central role" in its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to continue the multiverse storyline, with Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter also reportedly involved.
