Avowed Has a Little Bit of Romance In It After All

Obsidian's Avowed has launched in early access, allowing players to explore the Living Lands and encounter magical items, perilous situations, and surprisingly, romantic possibilities.

Prior to release, Obsidian stated Avowed wouldn't include a dedicated romance system, prioritizing "thoughtful relationships" with companions instead. Avowed game director Carrie Patel explained in an IGN interview: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters... if you're going to do it, you really, really have to commit... So not something we're doing for Avowed, but I wouldn't say never."

However, early access players and reviewers report at least one companion, Kai, displays romantic interest in the player character. Significant spoilers for interactions with Kai follow. Proceed with caution.
