Japanese Mahjong is an engaging game that follows the traditional Japanese style of rules. To play, you'll use the slider located at the bottom of the screen to select your tiles. Once you've made your choice, simply tap the slider to discard the tile.
The objective of Mahjong is to complete your hand with four Melds and one Pair. An example of a complete hand might look like this: [1, 2, 3][6, 6, 6][6, 7, 8][N, N, N][4, 4]. However, be mindful that certain hands may not be valid if you use Chi, Pon, or Open Kan during play. Pay special attention when using 1 and 9 tiles in Chi and Pon, as this can affect the validity of your hand.
In Japanese Mahjong, you need at least one valid hand. You can declare a "Reach" by paying 1,000 points, which allows you to set up your hand for a potential win. However, you cannot declare Reach if you have performed Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. A closed hand, one that hasn't used these actions, typically earns higher points.
Understanding the concept of a "Lost Hand" is crucial. A Lost Hand occurs when you are Waiting to win but cannot claim victory from another player's discard because you've already discarded the winning tile yourself. Even with a Lost Hand, you can still win by self-drawing the needed tile. The key strategy here is to never allow another player to win by discarding a tile they need. Always try to reason out other players' hands based on their discards and aim to win by completing your own hand.
