READY! for Kindergarten

READY! for Kindergarten is the premier school readiness program developed by The Children's Reading Foundation, specifically designed for children ages 2 to 5, as well as older children who may need extra support in core developmental skills.

The READY! for Kindergarten app empowers parents to prepare their child for lifelong learning and academic success through engaging, interactive gameplay. Each game within the app is carefully crafted to target a specific core skill essential for kindergarten readiness. These games are built for repeated play, because young learners thrive with consistent practice—hundreds of repetitions—within a nurturing and encouraging environment.

To learn more about the skills each game supports, simply tap the "i" icon located in the lower-right corner of every game screen. As your child plays, the app automatically tracks progress and sends data to the Reports section. This allows you to monitor your child’s development in key skill areas and compare their achievements to those of other children across the U.S. of similar age, helping you identify where additional focus may be needed.

For children aged 2 to 5, the app teaches essential early learning milestones such as singing the ABC song, recognizing letter shapes, identifying letter sounds, expanding vocabulary, rote counting up to 30, and understanding basic emotions—all foundational skills for future academic success.

At the heart of the READY! program lies the 26 Age-Level Targets—measurable skills that most 5-year-olds should have mastered before entering kindergarten. These research-backed targets were developed over seven years by early childhood education experts in collaboration with families, scientists, and educators to ensure they reflect real-world readiness needs.

In recognition of its impact, READY! for Kindergarten was honored with a Top 100 Award for programs by District Administration Magazine in 2013.
