Star Wars Sparkles! Oscar Isaac to Appear at Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors
Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film. This has led fans to anticipate a similar announcement from Isaac.
Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Initially expressing reluctance to return (stating in 2020 he'd only do so for "another house"), he later shifted his stance, telling Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything." He has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney's rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega). Boyega himself has expressed past negativity towards Disney and the franchise, but has also indicated openness to future roles.
This renewed interest in Isaac's involvement fuels speculation about a possible reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – in the upcoming Rey film. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, centers on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already voiced her support for Boyega's return, making Poe's inclusion a logical next step.
However, definitive answers may remain elusive for some time. Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars projects have pushed back the potential release of the Rey film, now tentatively scheduled for December 17, 2027 at the earliest. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 could offer some clarity, fans may have a considerable wait before concrete details emerge.
