Sony's Unveiled Los Angeles PlayStation Studio: A New AAA Title in the Works

A newly established PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, is developing a high-profile, original AAA IP for the PS5, as confirmed by a recent job posting. This marks Sony's 20th first-party studio, adding to its already impressive roster of acclaimed developers.

The announcement has generated considerable excitement among PlayStation fans, who eagerly anticipate news regarding upcoming titles from established studios like Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac Games. Sony's strategic acquisitions of studios such as Housemarque, Bluepoint Games, and Firesprite in recent years have further fueled this anticipation.

The identity of the Los Angeles-based studio remains undisclosed, but speculation points to two potential origins:

• A Bungie Spin-off: Following Bungie layoffs in July 2024, 155 employees transitioned to Sony Interactive Entertainment. It's possible this new studio incorporates a team working on Bungie's "Gummybears" incubation project.

• Jason Blundell's Team: Veteran Call of Duty developer Jason Blundell, formerly co-founder of Deviation Games, left the studio in 2022 before its closure in March 2024. Significantly, many former Deviation Games employees joined PlayStation in May 2024 under Blundell's leadership. Given the longer gestation period, this team is a strong contender for the new studio's personnel. The project they're developing remains unknown, but it's speculated to be a continuation or reboot of Deviation Games' abandoned AAA title.

While Sony may not reveal details for some time, the confirmation of another first-party game in development is welcome news for PlayStation enthusiasts.
